Celebrating America
In two thousand and thirteen
Makes me hate the things I’ve heard…
Really sob at those I’ve seen.
Yet in a better time and age…
Way back when things were good.
I remember Johnny Cash
And the things for which he stood.
He stood tall in patriotism…
He loved this country so!
And he’d worn the air force uniform
So it wasn’t just for show.
Guys like Johnny Cash put pride
Of country in a song.
It made one want to fly the flag
And wave it all day long.
Some will point out his mistakes…
But this will not promote his sin.
He was prototype American…
His strong convictions do fit in.
His concern for prison reform…
The Native American plight…
He rebuked injustice and sang songs
For what he believed was right.,
He said freedom defines America
And I believe it does…
Then what’s with all the changes?
I liked it the way it was.
Freedom meant kids prayed in school
If they chose to do so…
The Bible was respected back
Not many years ago.
As a kid I’d never heard
Of politically correct.
And marriage meant a mom and dad…
Today it’s what the heck!
Abortion’s been made legal…
Yet illegals use our funds!
And here of late the government
Wants to carry off our guns!
IRS scandals … Benghazi cover-ups
And now uncommon schools
Has America become a laughing stock?
Just a simple land of fools?
Where is Johnny Cash’s America?
The America I once knew?
Can we really celebrate the 4th
The same way we used to do?

2 Cronicles 7:14
If My people who are called by My name will humble
themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their
wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive
their sin and heal their land.
