Hungry Voices are Singing ( extended )

Poverty comes easy as does pangs of hunger pains,
Crops a distant memory, gone with the life giving rains,
Shadows of drought casts a curse upon this arid land,
The fate of future generations held in the Devil's hand,

The child born into hunger seeks comfort and a feed,,
Their own little siblings, rivals in a fight for a basic need,
I will never succeed to rid myself, no matter how hard I try.
A sight of a starving child, the sound of its anguished cry,

Now hungry voice are singing, a lament for you to hear,
There will be no saving music as death grows ever near,
A stricken nation in famine, unable to feed their young,
Pleading the world for life, the words of the dying sung,

A world of empty promises, a world of empty wallets too,
A blind eye to such pitiful suffering, is sadly nothing new,
Why not share resources, there's be enough to go around,
Teach the world to feed itself, compassionate heart be found,

Still the hungry voices are singing, a lament for you to fear,
Still no international compassion, a spectre of death is here,
We still treat them with detachment, that child is not our own,
Only the luck of our birth-place, separates us from that zone,

Hungry voices are still singing, just listen and you will know,
Hearing words of beguiling torment, a haunting face of woe,
You are as guilty as any other, you know the desperate plight
Make a sacrifice for fellow family, do what you know is right,

Those sunken eyes can't be forgotten they look into my soul,
Shrivelling skin so withered and dry, their eyes black as coal,
Their ghosts haunt my very being, leaving guilt so hard to bear,
Don't just read my poem, what we need is do more than just care,

Share this world with each other, we still find the cash for arms,
Let's get our priorities correct, lets give them productive farms,
With seeds and irrigation, we can help them to feed their young,
Possibly one day the words of hungry voices no longer will be sung
