Singing the blues for Woodinville
Two of my favorite poems always
"Casey at Bat!" and "Rudyard Kipling's If"
I remember suffering being in Summer school
Could not graduate without English credits
I have no trouble with the English language
In high school I hated poetry
At the mercy of a lady who loved poetry
In charge to get credit for English 100
Teacher required memorizing and reciting
500 lines of poetry in front of the class
Painful for those with speech impediments
I draw a blank at names of people I know if pressured
So after, "Now I lay me down to sleep and the Lord prayer"
My favorite find, Rudyard Kipley and the poem "If"
She even called me down making up verses
"If you can count all the pencils on the desk?"
Panicing I drew nothing but blanks hence summer school
At least then I only had to recite by memory to the teacher
I recited every version of Casey at Bat I could find
The pledge of alliegence In God we trust Roses is red
The wolve in Grandma's bed and some I wrote myself
This leads up to last night's baseball game
Down 3-0 first inning Woodinville rallied
Casey's(Brent) at bat team had scored one run
Mighty Casey lines a double and knocked in second run
One inning and the score Woodinville behind 3-2
Later with the game tied 3-3 two runners on base
Brent at bat again with two runners on base
Mighty Casey lined a double and knocked in two more runs,5-3
It seemed a sure win but the visitors rallied 5-6
Added one more run and Woodinville's time to rallly
But all was not lost Mighty Casey batted fifth
Last inning tying runners on base Casey was next to bat
Mighty Casey never got to bat as the batter in front ended
the game by grounding out and Casey listened to the Fat lady sing
Tonight there well be a championship game but might Casey
Is flying home for Casey there well be another game
