Poetry By A CONTEMPORARY POET

Trayvon Martin

The verdict was heard and I like everyone else was shocked and amazed.
I know Trayvon is not resting he's turning in his grave.
A family left mourning the death of their son.
All over a corner store run, for some skittles and tea.
No one knew that night he would meet his destiny.
Profiled by a man who was the so called neighborhood watch.
That felt a little black Trayvon didn't belong on his block.
Instead of calling the police he followed young Trayvon.
All along knowing he intended to do harm.
The police were called and told Zimmerman not to pursue.
Zimmerman decided to show young Trayvon a thing or too.
Picking a fight with this this handsome young man.
He knew he was unarmed,Zimmerman with a gun in his hand.
A scuffle and Zimmerman shot Trayvon that terrible night.
Leaving a family mourning the loss of their child's life.
Hoping justice would prevail
That Zimmerman would spend the rest of his life in jail.
Left wondering how did the justice system fail.
I pray for peace in the midst of the storm.
That the family will heal and in time move on.
That awareness would bring about change and that we will all remember Trayvons name.
Teach our kids that the world isn't safe,
We all have a Trayvon tell them you love them in hopes its never too late.
Sleep in peace Trayvon we will continue the fight.
So that no one else loses their life.

Thoughts and Prayers are with the Martin family
