His tour in life nears end this day
The rest sought for as silence plays
A chance to think through yesterdays
The war abroad puts mind and soul
Back there again in its choke hold
As many fell along the road
To the next plain with deeds all sowed
War has its fury when death becomes
Of young soldiers daughters and sons
On battle ground that ran with rain
Its color red where some remained
Mortar rounds and rifle fire
Artillery and much barb wire
Two things that dwell upon his mind
That took many but spared him time
Returning home to those he loved
As prayers prayed to GOD above
Thankful hearts now gather round
A frail old man that stood his ground
His last goodbye expressed by smile
Upon his face, light now compiles
The many years and tour of life
Leaving to be, with loving wife
