Poetic Verses

Oh! Countryside

Those days are passed when one would come to decide
That it's the countryside that with the family they will reside
There is no doubt that in those times there was lots of time to capture
The natural beauty of the surrounding and take that walk with nature

But is now such a hurting as this can be relived only through a dream
When remembering that for a great distance those green tops were seen
Of the sugar cane extending for miles and encompassing many an acre
Those gently swaying tops in the breeze painted such a beautiful picture

The lazy sea water in the summer's sun was so tranquil and serene
Its light reflecting from the water's surface gave off such a great sheen
As those ripples and waves rising lazily and slowly moving to the shore
Touching the golden sand and some of the water disappearing into the pore

Hark! What is that sound be made in the background
It's being made by the motor of that little engine
Providing that energy to generate that needed force
The propel the water through the pipes for the irrigation course

And in the distance there is that sound of such lowing
As in those verdant pastures the many cattle are grazing
The smoothness of their hides glistening in the sunlight
How the presence of a variety of breeds made such a wonderful sight

There is no discounting the many and varied fruit trees
The aroma of their fruit carried for miles in the breeze
Nestle too among the branches are those happy singing birds
Whose sound in the village around could be certainly heard?

One of the joys also of that quiet and friendly country living
Mainly all around there is that spirit of giving and also sharing
And mainly on the people faces there is such a smile
How in the hearts of many there is feeling of again being a child

Then as though in what seems like a wink all that is gone
How and now for that spirit there is that inner yearning
All around now there that sight of those concrete monuments
Now all that beauty is lost to what is called development
