Stars shine but not quite so brightly
as when she was reflecting in his eyes.
Poets scribe insatiably of affections eternal
yet I believe sometimes love dies.
Flowers left unattended to wither.
The scent she loved but for a while.
Now she chokes and is overpowered
by a fragrance she finds putrid and vile.
Photographs with elated faces
are the testimony indeed love was there.
Yet letters from the heart penned on paper
are discarded without one single care.
Time and distance are the killers
strangling her heart with ice cold fingers.
Soon nothing remains but bitterness.
Oh! How that emotion grows and lingers.
Doubt festers in her mind relentlessly
and the infection continues breeding.
It spreads to the fragile heart unchecked
till love lies there bleeding.
"No worries!" she proclaims to her friends.
Her voice filled with mock gusto and zeal.
"Losing one lover just leaves me open
to find a love that's real!"
For Ashley the heart and mind will always battle one another for control. You are right my friend in seeing. Staying with the wrong person keeps you from finding the right one. Love you girl!
