ETHEREAL PUFFS OF FLEETING WISPS

""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

WRITTEN BY S.C.MITCHELL

SEPTEMBER 2013

Subtle breezes whispering through the closing summer boughs -
Blowing  kisses to the Autumn leaves - as if to say - ' tis time to
Make your farewell speech for yet another year - but never fret -
For you are captured in the hearts of man as something beauteous
That brings with it such memories sweet - to captivate the soul - as
You now lay unclothed -  in swathes of golden beauty  -
At his feet .

This is the softening of the dreaded changes that must come - for
Those who know the seasons and their differing climes - as with an
Artist's brush - who steals a splash of red across a darkening sky -
As if to show it mellowed - so as not to cause impending fear of
Changing light - as sunsets ease us - with their glory - into each
New coming - cooler night .

Though chilling winds may one day follow in your wake - you need
Not fear - for you will soon be gone - but not forgotten - as the mantle
Changes at the closing of another year - when breath - like ethereal
Puffs of fleeting wisps - begin to form - in throats exposed now to
The cooling air and early misty morn .

So clap your hands with joy - you leaves of summer past - and exchange
Them for a different gown - of splendid russet hues of golds and reds and
Brown - and like a diver from the sky - for that brief moment in exhilarating
Flight - let go - and dance with wonder - and sweet ecstacy - before you
Finally alight - at last unfettered and
Completely free.

I so love the Autumn months , or Fall , as you call it in the States ....when the
beauty of the colours of the leaves begin to herald in the changes before
winter sets in ...

This truly is the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness , as John Keats so
aptly described it .

Wonderful.

God bless you all
