Born Wheelchair Bound

All his life he’s been
Misunderstood by society
Sometimes even shunned
His soul lost in reverie
Those closest to him often say,
You’re no different from the others
Against melody of darkened skies

He feels life’s constant smother

But he smiles through the rain
And wills his soul to stand
Stronger than the toughest man
That stands tall on this land
Each day brings new challenges
Of bridges he must cross
At times against better judgment
He’s chosen bitter cause

He’s got some good ole boys
Who have his back for life
It matters not the consequence
Dismay or measured strife
His family is his lifeline
He cherishes so sweet
But how he wishes he could run
Get up and move his feet

He grimaces through the pain
He hides when they're around
Like an outfit he must wear each day
Like music with no sound
He wonders deep inside
If someday she’ll be there
The smile he’s now missing
The void that leaves him bare

There shouldn’t be a barrier
His heart is open wide
He wants to spend remaining days
With someone by his side
Perhaps one day he’ll find her,
The sunshine he so craves
The morning hugs and midnight kisses
The storm he wants to brave
