O, candy corn October,
God has pulled down your sleeves…
Preparing for a work of art
Painted on all your leaves.
From the chilly chirp of morning
To the frosted breath of night…
Steaming cups of cider call
An end to summer’s flight.
While voices in the silent sky
Announce another change…
Hoodies replace halter tops
And temperatures arrange
For bodies to enjoy a blast
Of wind-swept serenades.
Tri-colored trees wish to perform
In autumn’s promenades.
Geese are soaring to the south
Clouds sail rapidly along.
Children look toward to the treats
That sing October’s song.
A harvest moon is hanging low…
The air a crisp delight.
Stars are wide awake and wink
Toward earth each endless night.
Apple cobblers…pumpkin pies…
Seducing scents of spice.
Autumn’s allure can tantalize
And so totally entice .
So when summer’s made an exit
And we wait for winter’s call…
O, candy corn October,
We enjoy you most of all.
