necessary evil
it was an
extra-ordinary conversation
framed by an odd
juxtaposition of words
I wince when I hear
the English language
twisted into the
unreasonable or
unrecognizable
how much do we think
about the meaning of
what we are saying
when we speak
"well, we need a diagnosis...""
she said
"its just a necessary evil..."
was her glib response
"necessary evil?"
I echoed her...
"those two words
should not meet...
they simply never belong
together"
"how can or could anyone ever
be lead to believe
that evil
is necessary..."
she blinked
confusion
overtaking her face
her vivid blue-green eyes turning inward...
for a moment
words abandoned her
"I'll have to think
about that...
what you meant..."
she stammered,
faltering.
realizing then
a stark point had been made
that might not have ever
been made before...
I too paused,
reflecting
gazing into
her startled
reflection.
