FRIGHT NIGHT (A HALLOWEEN POEM)

FRIGHT NIGHT

Dark the alleys, demure the lights
Eerie the sounds that whisper tonight
The moon braces herself to spooky shadows in sight
Off they creep and lurk to fright.

In every brush of the wind or ting-a-ling of a chime
In every shrill unleashed or howl chilling the spine
Are there creatures out there as stories foretold?
Or just bunch of lies no heart can hold.

There may be vampires, witches or ghosts
Real or not, who scares you the most?
It's twelve midnight, says the wary clock
Tic..tic…the chamber's door unlocks.

A silhouette in black enters
The one in bed aghast
Her grip too tight on the covers,
Her heart beating fast.

A strong yet gentle hand pat her head and stroke her hair,
"it's daddy, just checking on you dear."
Door shuts. Cold rain lures the eyes.
Ablaze the fingers that grit the skies.

A dark shadow in cape appears in between flashes.
Who could it be, her thought clashes.
Could never be daddy…oh! my Dracula mannequin!
Her heart laughs…just in time for the Halloween.

Hush the heart that quivers….in Fear!
