Thirty-two years ago today
I heard your lovely daddy say
Sweetie we`ve got us a lass
And from here she looks first class.
Big blue eyes, a knowing stare
Skin like petals and downy hair
Midwife and her having a chat
You`ll get to see her after that
Now I`ll go and have a fag
Goad ah`ve never worked sae hard
That gas and air has made me smile
Think ah`ll gae and rest awhile
Cindy-Anna oor wee wean
Chucky-chucky-chucky stane
Ahh, that`s nice give maw a kiss
Glad that ah wis here fir this
Happy birthday tae oor lassie
Knew you`d grow up to be sassie
Like you Da and like your Mum
Glad this time ye`re no a son
Will you please remember tae
Ah`ll be wae yeh every day
Love yeh darling` aye I do
Maw and me are proud of you
These are all the words he`d say
If he was with you babe today
Instead he put them in my head
So I could tell you them instead
Have a happy happy year
Love you oh so much my dear
Do not be too broken hearted
Da`s not far, you`ll not be parted
Tonight as you gaze up above
He will send you down his love
And from me you always know
Just how much I love you so.
