The Judge

A Mother’s Love

Through haunted eyes he saw her
Through heavy bars of steel…
The old face was familiar…
The setting seemed unreal.

For just a fleeting moment
He recalled a childhood scene…
Where the woman stood before him
When the setting was serene.

He recalled her gentle teaching…
Her sacrifices and her praise.
How she’d always stood beside him…
This wayward boy God had her raise.

He’d always been the rebel child…
Hard to cope with…to control.
He’d broke her heart so many times
Yet she still prayed for his soul.

Now, here she stood before him…
An old Bible in her hand.
He couldn’t stop the tears that fell
As he tried to understand

Why she never would forsake him
It didn’t matter what he’d done…
She would always be there for him…
He would always be her son.

Her smiles swam through the wrinkles…
Love shone through eyes grown dim.
He stood in awed amazement
At the words she spoke to him.

She told him she had seen the judge…
That the verdict would be fair.
She’d pleaded mercy for her child…
Assured him mercy would be there.

But she’d also gone before The Judge…
The Highest and the Blessed.
The One who deals in mercy
More so than all the rest.

She said, " Son, please let me tell you
   All about a mother’s love.
I know it must be manifested
From somewhere up above.

It’s filled with God’s forgiveness…
It's unconditional and pure…
It's destined to last forever…
Of this you can be sure.”

~~Dedicated to the memory of
My sister Ginny....
And to all mothers who love
their sons unconditionally~~

1 Corinthians 13:4
Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous
;
is not proud; is not conceited; does not act
foolishly; is not selfish; is not easily provoked
to anger; keeps no record of wrongs; takes no
pleasure in unrighteousness, but rejoices in
the truth; love bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, and endures all things.

I Peter 4:8
Keep your love for one another at full strength,
because love covers a multitude of sins. ~

Proverbs 31: 10, 25-30
Who can find a virtuous woman? She is far
more precious than jewels...
Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can
laugh at the time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom, and loving
 instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the activities of her household
 and is never idle.
Her sons rise up and call her blessed.
He husband also praises her:
Many women are capable, but you
 surpass them all!
Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman
who fears the Lord will be praised.
