Upon the fields of foreign lands
Spread wide now bare of fallen man
Blood was shed and also damned
Remorse would spill on beach head sands
There once there a young man came
To fight for peace, leave not the same
As final breath drew to a close
As medics watched those death had chose
Mindsets of young and old became
Recruits for life some sane, insane
Became their tours of duty there
Became of them and battles fared
Blood would paint the landscape red
Wounded became pallets that shed
Colors of courage, that gave their all
Heeding commands when duty called
Young faces traced battlegrounds
Leaving their mark upon a mound
Of earth not theirs, but none the less
Left something, many lifeless
The art of war paints many things
That once was there, yet still something
Of beauty reigns, of gallantry
Of blood crimson and infantry
Of Purple Hearts and infancy
and Silver Stars that paint clearly
The Art of War
GOD bless those who served and serve our country
The Art of War
