Firefights By EDWIN FLORES, www.PoetryPoem.com/poetry2231 Unlock all Features - Upgrade to Poetry Prime
Beneath their shirts are many stories
Of yesterdays and too their glory
Of wounds incurred having not healed
And breath of life, the war would steal
The many lost, the friendships made
Redemption's price, with blood theirs paid
Here among the living stayed
Horrors that host within them lay
Their eyes have seen front line and more
Of mangled limbs and wars that store
Inside of hearts that stop this day
Of fire fights, that still replay
Reflections deep that left their scars
Upon a mind and body marred
Of agents Orange and Black ops too
Of MIA, brief friends they knew
The battle ground beyond the graves
The tattered souls, the medics saved
Of camouflage still worn today
And ribbons earned the kind pinned stay
Medals of Honor and stripes that run
Alongside sleeve that battles stunned
These firefights that still live on
Alive not well of once upon
Salute them now, acknowledge them
As they well paid, today and then
A price beyond comforts won't tell
Their tours of duty, time spent in Hell
