a blessing, surely, the day you found us
little cat
growing smaller with
age
we
nearly lost you
what did your illness
cost you
it cost me plenty
I see now a head speckled
with grey
little love translates
into bigger loves that not many know
but you show it a
thousand ways
witchery trickery to
number your days
far less than mine,
why not should they match
so neither should mourn
nor know loneliness
but today I thank
the great protector of all
best-loved cats that she/he
decided to let you come back
that you responded patiently
to my administering of
food through a syringe
water in a dropper
and cooing speech
silly human that I am
you mean that much to me
a blessing surely
the day you found us.
