Poetic-Verses

'' Look Closer, I Could Well Be You ''

My body is being riddled by disease,
It is tearing my insides apart,
My illnesses myself I refuse to appease,
Though they're literally breaking my heart.

I was always a taker never a giver,
What you'd call an out and out chancer,
Now as the booze destroys my liver,
Eventually it will turn into cancer.

Cigarettes I've enjoyed all my life,
Many like myself would agree,
It's only others who suffer the strife,
It will never happen to me.

Injecting heroin and snorting cocaine,
Some would say is a life of fear,
They say taking drugs is totally insane,
They're annoyed that I'm still here.

Why do I do it I hear you ask?
Have you no vices to cure,
If you're perfect let me take you to task,
Maybe me you can reassure.

In this life there are those who can cope,
Whenever disaster strikes,
On others it leaves them without any hope,
At their very existence it strikes.

Witnessing violence or sexual abuse,
Can destroy the life of a child,
Around your neck it becomes a noose,
You feel as if you're reviled.

Marital breakdowns, bereavement or loss,
It really is such a fine line,
You'll either move on or not give a toss,
To err is human to forgive is divine.

Next time you see me don't vent you fury,
I won't personally cause you any ado,
Before you become my judge and jury?
