people of the prairie

a sky so clear
a plain limitless
a herd of horses wild and free

this
is where we're born
to be

seas of green unbowed
finding ourselves creatures of
the great unknown

sowing seeds
growing weeds and flowers
in the forests of buffalo grass

moving with the wind
the snowy petals of prairie rose
dance with us
moving us through our past

in one rising cinematic sweep
our eyes like eagles
seek
as
all around

earth embraces sky

our song is interpreted
by the wind
echoing through
our
many voices.
