what are we thinking
how do we dare
to represent God
or any aspect of Him
as who or what we are?

with a constellation of miracles
that slide into place
every hour on the hour,
i am folly!

if i choose to seek God,
let it be
but for the love of your soul,
don't look at me
or to one who makes rules
of what (or not) to say
where to go or stay
how or when to pray

we doubt and fight
rail against right
and beliefs that aren't our own
(which are usually wrong)

succeeding only in trying
the patience of Mercy
