Beatlemania

I'll still take country
Or Broonzy or such
Cos I never liked the Beatles
All that very much.
I want to talk to you honestly
So you don't get me wrong
There are times when I enjoy
A Lennon and Macartney song,
But I was raised on Broonzy,
Learned to love the blues.
So to me the Beatles were
Just an aside on the news.

And I loved Country, Hank Williams,
 Discovered in my early teens
And so many exciting names
On the sixties Country scene.
In an exciting time for music
They were for me just one of the rest
I could never understand how
They came to be regarded as the best.

Away in the forces
When they came to the fore
I missed most music,
Preferred drinking more;
A cold Charlie Mit
With a blues and country mix
Gave me my evening
Musical listening fix.

All these years later,
Half the Beatles gone,
While wrinkly Macartney
Embarassingly carries on.
And I still quite like
An early Beatles song
They've aged quite well
Don't get me wrong,
But I'll still take country
Or Broonzy or such
Cos I never liked the Beatles
All that very much.
