The wait endless or so it seemed
Each day that passed by window leaned
A child of age no more than five
Anticipation, theirs could not hide
Snow flurries began to fall
His pace quickened, up, down the hall
What if his card in plane was stalled?
As once before, his order tall
The North Pole sits so far away
No way to see what comes this day
As flurries change to snowflakes grand
A change for worse, changed Santa's plan
How would He see, through this whiteout?
Will he find home child wrote about?
Or will He miss where this boy waits
Restless as sleep calls wait to wait
In mothers arms carried to bed
He sleeps though dreams have plans instead
To bring back what was borrowed from
Their Home, father to little one
As dream nears end daylight peeks through
Another day of things to do
Like playing catch with one he loves
A father missed and wonders of
So many presents under the tree
But not the one he thought he'd see
Yet his tours of emptiness
Came to their end with happiness
As soldier slips in calling out with a shout
Dear Noah, I'm home it's time to go out
And in just two shakes of a lambs tail
Became now two kids, on hill sled would sail
A child's joy is all one needs
The season for being, Christmas card yours from me
