  October's Child

WINTER'S GRACE

WINTER'S GRACE

Pregnant are the clouds that birth the first snow
In this quaint little valley with its florid echo
Children with toboggans their faces aglow
Observing winter's mantle as it closes autumn's show

Dusty flakes of white embrace the mountains high
Threading silver's glow to knit a blue sky
A folded backdrop reveals skaters near-by
The sum of sleepy valley with its white neck tie

From the window she smiles at each drifting flake
Seemingly they fall in lockstep just for her sake
Slowly her smile begins to bend and then break
As melancholy follows in the falling smile's wake

Crystalline shapes begin forming etching's traces
In the smiles of her mind she sees shifting faces
There are tendril's of thoughts of so many places
While her melancholy smiles salute winter's graces
