This will be a series of writings on 1Corinthians 13
It is called the Love Chapter of the Bible
1CORINTHIANS 13: 1-3
King James Version
1. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,
and have not charity (love), I am become as sounding brass,
or a tinkling cymbal.
2. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries,
and all knowledge;
and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains,
and have not charity (love), I am nothing.
3. And though I bestow (give) all my goods to feed the poor,
and though I give my body to be burned,
and have not charity (love), it profiteth (gains) me nothing.

Paul the Apostle wrote this around 56 A.D.
In his letter to the Corinthians he was explaining
how a Christian should act.

This is my understanding of what these Scriptures mean.
I do not claim to be all knowing as I write this.
Some things in the Bible we take by faith.
Jesus gave us the Golden Rule to live our lives by:
"Do unto others as you would have them to do unto you". Luke 6:31
1. If one could speak with the tongues (languages) of men
and of angels (heavenly beings) it would not make a difference if
I did not have love in my heart. It would sound like a band playing off key,
Or finger nails scratching on a blackboard.
Most of us can tell when someone is saying or writing
something to stroke our egos in order to alter the way
we react or accept them. Another word used to describe these people is hypocrites.
That is a person who wears two faces;
one who pretends to have virtue in order to advance them self.

2. And though I have the gift of prophecy (knowing what will take place in the future),
and understand all mysteries (things that are not known at this time),
and have all knowledge (to know everything past, present and future) and
if I have all faith (a belief in) yet not have not charity (love) then I am nothing.
One can have faith in anything. For example, when you sit on a chair,
you have faith to believe it will hold you and not fall. If I could remove
mountains. (We do remove mountains today to make roads, build cities and other things),
BUT will that cause us to love one another?!
If it were possible to do all of these things
that Paul writes of here but do not have love for mankind
in our hearts it is not worth anything.
We can not work our way into heaven.
That is impossible.
It is only through the blood of Jesus
on the cross that we are given access to heaven.
Heaven is a gift. Because it is a gift of love from God
we do works to please God. We love one another to please God.
Some people are very hard to love. AND we can do it only through
the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
He loves them. By His power we are able to love one another too.

3. If I gave all my goods to feed the poor, and if I gave my body to be
burned (hurting one's self in some way thinking it would please God),
and have not love, it is worthless.
One can give away all they possess trying to please God.
Unless love is in the heart it is without value.
One can give their body away to be burned, (God does not want us to do this).
It will not make Him love us. He has said our bodies are
the home of His Holy Spirit.
He wants us to keep our whole being clean and healthy for Him.

God wants us to love each other in the right way.
Not just to get something for ourselves from loving,
but to please and obey Him.
If this were not possible He would not have told us to love one another.
John 3:16
FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD, THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON,
THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH,
BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.
