This is the third in the series of writings on 1Corinthians 13,
called the love chapter of the Bible.
There are three kind of love talked about in the Bible:
AGAPE love: This is the love that God has for us.
The kind of love we as Christians are supposed to have for each other.
PHILIA love: This is friendship, brotherhood and not intimate love.
The city Philadelphia get its name from this.
It is called the "the city of brotherly love".
EROS love: an affection of an intimate nature.
This is where Cupid and other pagan gods get their origin from.
It is erotic in nature.
IN THIS STUDY WE ARE TALKING ABOUT GOD'S AGAPE LOVE FOR US
1 Corinthians 13: 8-10
New King James Version
8. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies,
they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease;
whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.
9. For we know in part and we prophesy in part.
10. But when that which is perfect has come,
then that which is in part will be done away.
THIS IS MY UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT THESE SCRIPTURES MEAN.
I do not claim to be all knowing as I write this.
Some things in the Bible we take by faith.
8. LOVE never fails - This is God's Agape love.
God's love is forever, it never ends. His love is deathless,
His Love is never defeated. Nothing anyone can do will stop
God from loving them.
Passion (eros) love will burn out, but Agape love will live on forever.
But whether there are prophecies, they will fail;
whether there are tongues, they will cease;
PROPHECIES will be fulfilled and TONGUES will cease.
These are gifts God gave to His Church.
There will be no need for them when
Jesus returns for His Bride (the Christian church).
KNOWLEDGE will vanish away. We can see this taking place now.
Example: Think about the first computer you had.
Think about how many times it had to be updated.
Think about the one you have now.
It is much more advanced than the first one.
KNOWLEDGE (science) is progressive. It does not stand still
it is always changing. Knowledge too will vanish.
When Jesus returns we will have complete knowledge from Him.
9. For we KNOW in part and we PROPHESY in part.
In our earthly bodies we only see what our human eyes and minds
allows us to see and understand. There will come a time when Our Lord
returns our knowledge will come from Him.
Some of us think we know everything now. What a surprise we will have
when we find out just how much we didn't know.
10. But when that which is perfect has come,
then that which is in part will be done away.
There is only one Person who was/is perfect
(that which is PERFECT). He is our Lord Jesus the Christ.
When He returns we will have no need for all the things we discussed.
We will be complete in Him.
There will come a time when we will have no need
for these bodies that cause us pain nor for the other things of this world.
My definition of AGAPE LOVE is JOHN 3:16
FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD
THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON
THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVED IN HIS SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE
EVERLASTING LIFE
