Man has a misconception
Of when eternal life begins.
He doesn’t seem to understand
That he was dead in all his sins.
But the moment he was born again…
The minute he accepted Christ…
At that hallelujah spot in time
He entered eternal life.
This means that he will never die
Though his body will decay…
For in the twinkling of an eye
His spirit flies away.
He keeps waiting for eternity
To begin eternal life…
When, in all truth, it’s been bestowed
Amidst all the stress and strife.
He’s in the world…not of the world…
Thus he does have to remain
Until temporal things have passed away
And Heaven’s his to gain.
But eternal life’s already his…
It was purchased at The Cross…
Granted by the Grace of God…
By the blood our Savior lost.
For man has passed from death to life
According to God’s Word.
Why look forward to eternal life
When it already has occurred?
Ah-h, man, I hope you realize
What I’ve tried to make you see.
You’re born again and eternal life
Is yours now and eternally.
