Life Story #16

Every morning at the same time at to same coffee shop
Always as expected this little old couple would stop
They would sit for hours with a few friends as the days flew by
It was assumed they were retired so no one ever wondered why
Oh the stories they must know, the things they must have seen
All the summers, all the winters, all the falls, and all the springs
What is it now that brings them to this coffee shop everyday
If we took time to meet and ask them what would they say
As for this same coffee shop and the question why
As the man begins to tell this tell a tear rolls from his eye
My wife is not well her memory is failing so
That stories she use to often tell she no longer knows
After 50 years of marriage, 3 children raised and moved on
These are the times to enjoy their golden years alone
But suddenly it seems the gold is not the same
There were mornings when she couldn't remember her own name
He got this idea of repetition in his mind
Have coffee every day at the same place at the same time
And what better place than where their eyes first met
When he said to himself I will make her mine yet
Also the place where they had their first kiss
He thinks to himself, she will always remember this.
Desperate times cause for desperate measures
A grasp in the dark to hold on to life's simple pleasures
He will sit here every day all day and just hold her hand
And gaze at her wedding ring and his wedding band
Laugh and smile enjoy there here and now
And pray that she will get better some how
Then he ask the question, what would you do
At the thought of your soul mate forgetting you
