SEPTEMBER SEVENTH IS A VERY SPECIAL DAY

September seventh is a very special day in my life
And I have been a very blessed man ever since 1974
Tomorrow we celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary

It was in October of 1973 that God had led me to her
It was at a friends party that I first saw this lady
Though I never thought she'd ever talk to me she did

She was very beautiful and as perfect as one could be
Without an attitude that many other young ladies had
There were some who were incredibly stuck up back then

They acted as if they were far better than anyone else
They had looked down on you as if you weren't worthy
Especially if they heard that you had been in Vietnam

But this beautiful lady was different from most others
She was interested in the fact that I had served there
Her dad had been in the Army at the Battle of the Bulge

He'd served all the way across Europe in World War Two
And her two brothers had also served in the Army too
The older brother was a Ranger with the paratroopers

We began dating just after we'd met at our friend's party
And it was just three months later I asked her to marry me
She cried and said yes without any hesitation what so ever

It was a marriage that was arranged in heaven by God above
You see that night when we had met we had both prayed to God
We'd hoped that we could finally meet someone very special

Later on that evening we met each other at our friends party
We had never met or seen each other before that special night
And actually we both almost decided not to go to this party

But I kept having this feeling that was telling me to go
It turned out that she too felt she needed to go as well
We both thanked God that we went or we wouldn't have met

As soon as I saw her there I fell head over heels for her
It took me some time to summon up my own personal courage
I decided to boldly walk over and introduce myself to her

Ever since that week we met each other we've been inseparable
She told me later that she knew that God had sent me to her
For she had prayed that God would guide her to the right man

We have two grown children she's almost 41 & he's just turned 35
They are both married and they both have very successful lives
Our daughter has a son and our son has two young daughters

We are extremely proud of our children and our grand kids too
I have been blessed in life more than any man should have been
And my love for my beautiful wife grows stronger every day

These past 43 years have gone by so quickly since that
night that I first met her and our journey through life
began together, we have faced many things together some
were bad with the passing of loved ones and some serious
health issues for me from heavy exposure to Agent Orange
chemical defoliants during the war that still affects my
health. Yet there have been so many great things that we
have had since 1973 and I would not change one moment or
thing in my life because it was all of those experiences
that we faced together that made us who we are today.
