Sixties---Surviving the Decade

It was the time to feel alive, our minds perpetually numb,
We all just lived for the day, tomorrow may never come,
Leaders played with our future, threats of nuclear power,
T'was a time of free love, we were the people of the flower,

Music reflected our thinking, a revolution for world peace,
I remember when I was a hippie, we sang for war to cease,
It was a decade of magic music, timeless classics filled the air,
Our future held by faceless men, we just acted without a care,

We still live within a time-warp, sing the songs that last forever,
Known as baby boomers, to stay groovy is our endeavour,
Across many continents young people were united in song,
While brave boys were conscripted, it felt so morally wrong,

Many good men were assassinated, society had lost its way,
We were barely surviving the decade, insanity came into play,
The Bay of Pigs became a deadly game, the stakes insanely high,
“The four minute warnings” a catch phrase meant you will die,

We survived that great decade, a fondness of our teenage years,
We lived life to its fullest, we learned to live with all our fears,
There will never be a decade like it, memories from another age,
I'm glad I was part of it all, willing participant in history's page,
