Fire glow

How I love to watch my fire glow,
To see the flame dance to and fro,
How I listen to the wood gently pop,
As the smoke escapes out the chimney top.

I love being inside; out of the rain,
Which I hear beating against my window frame,
Being home where I can be,
Warm and safe and happy.

I wear the slippers and cardigan ,
Bought for me by my grandchildren,
They worry lots but they needn't do;
I'm very independent though I'm 72.

I have my tea and an afternoon nap,
Then wake up and cook a bacon bap,
Sat infront of my glowing fire,
It's so good to be retired.
