If the Lord does not build the home,
Then it would be useless to labor;
And I would stray constantly roam,
Never knowing of my neighbor.
If the Lord never does stand guard,
No protection for the city;
No way to warn in that regard,
As the foes will have no pity.
It is useless in working hard,
For any food that you may eat;
Without anyone standing guard,
If your foe tramples with his feet.
You are getting up so early,
While going to bed so late;
Then tired and disorderly,
For sleep you cannot compensate.
The Lord has a good attitude,
To those He loves while they sleep;
Ensuring they have enough food,
While watching over their sheep.
Children are what you inherit,
Also with being a reward;
That you pass on all your merit,
As being a gift from the Lord.
Because it is within His plan,
For the parents still in their youth;
As the children born to a man,
Not at an age that is uncouth.
Bless the man, who is a giver,
Has a family without shame;
Able to make his wife quiver,
In all of what he does proclaim.
