Lesson overdue

I had been such a fool
So aloof, so out of the loop

I actually thought you loved me

You were so kind
Always looking out for me

I actually thought you loved me

So nice to surprise me with that trip
Visiting my family on another coast
And for so long
A whole month

I actually thought you loved me

Baby you were the greatest
I thought you hung the moon

I actually thought you loved me

I remember I couldn't wait to come home
We spoke about watching that episode of
"True Blood" together
We spoke so many times while I was away

I actually thought you loved me

How hard would it have been to tell me?
What I was coming home to
No home no man

I actually thought you loved me

You caused me so much hurt
So much pain

I actually thought you loved me

Now when I look back at that time
I am grateful to you for finally teaching me
That overdue lesson
I wish you had done it sooner
I want to thank you
For not loving me

I am so much better without you
Your lesson although overdue
Turned out to be the best thing
That ever happened to me
