Yesterday in the morning
The doorbell rang
I don't answer to door to door sellers
But it was a skinny sunken eyed boy
I opened the door and that was me as a child
Picking wild berries in coffee cans
Only he was selling candy bars
At very inflated pricing
I remember the day I knocked on this ladies door
I sold her berries the day before
She said it was for making berry pies
A quarter a can I said and she gave me a dollar
I bought Mom and my sister's dinner
On this day she said, "Aren't you the boy who came yesterday?"
And I panicked thinking she wanted her change
She gave me a dollar for my berries
And then she said, "Wait a minute!"
And she came to the door with a freshly baked pie
I put a ten dollar bill in the boys basket
Heah, it is inflation and I saw his eyes light up
As he dug to find unneeded change
