I don't mean that as mean
Not like lifting weights
Closing her fist and striking someone
Mom stood up to the Devil
She taught us the ten Commandments
Compassion for those who had less
And trust me on this there were not many
A little boy came to my door
I looked at him and he was me at that age
Skinny sunken in eyes and in need
He had a box selling Candy bars
He stumbled through his sales pitch
When I asked the price he stared blankly
I usually send door to door packing
But you see I am not rich but--
I have come along ways from the days I was poor
I put a ten spot in his box wished I had more
Mom on my shoulder let me know that was a shadow of me
Now about her being tough
When she heard her Cancer was fatal
She told the Doctor to use her in any
Any experimental tests to find a cure
She could take any pain given to her to cure Cancer
Of coarse there was only so much he could legally try
But he told me in the end he loved my Mother
And she stood up to pain others could not endure
OOh, and Mom's day, the one day I am allowed to cry
