The Burning Embers

Once the hearth was ablaze of the fire within it.
The warmth of the home was cozy and wonderful.
But then as the night went on the embers started to appear.
The couple had gone to bed and didn't put any more wood; on the fire.
So by morning, the embers were all that was left.
It was like the love of the two for their home was dwindling and losing ground.
They had a life together but were separating all the same.
The sad part is they didn't want to save their relationship any longer.
Coming to grips with the truth they like the embers died out.
They left their home of love and found for themselves emptiness.
They are not together now and it is sad to ponder the outcome.
Fortunately, there were no children so they are hurt.
It is sad to think of  a love that has grown cold to die as the embers did.
