UNVEILED

Living without acid
Thrown on me
Living without
Dishonor
I come from another country
Where "American" is what is honor
I am white
Although I had to fight
For everything achieved
I could leave
My father and mother
My husband
My house
To go out into the world
A woman or a girl
To make my mark
To do my part
With the God-given
Brain I have
And it is bad
If you are not
Allowed
That freedom
To become the
Woman you
Hide inside
Wanting to get
Out
When you are
Trampled down
And the man is
What it's all
About
I understand
The middle of the man
The neck his head
Sits upon
Is more important
Than the loving devotion
Of sitting you free
Turn your back
To let him take thee
Then cry with regret
Or better yet
Refused
Abused
That neck and head
Make it suffer
For them tougher
You have to use
All sorts of weapons
In you freedom
Fight
To make it right.
