Poetic-Verses

'' Lest We Forget ''

Young men and boys,
Enjoying a life,
Full of the joys,
No knowledge of strife.

Young women as well,
Chasing their dreams,
Soon they'd know Hell,
We can still hear their screams.

You may well ask,
What's all the fuss?
What was their task?
Were they different from us?

For freedom they'd fight,
Some to the death,
Keep this in sight,
They gave their last breath.

Against a dictator,
They fought through the years,
There's no sacrifice greater,
They gave us their tears.

Then came D-DAY,
They fought on the beaches,
There was no leeway,
That's what history teaches.

When Normandy fell,
Thousands lay dead,
Our heroes will tell,
That their enemies fled.

But the price they paid,
Is still felt today,
As the wreathes are laid,
Let us all pray.

Without our brave forces,
We'd have been overrun,
For the allied sources,
The end had begun.

To those who perished,
Civilians and ranks,
Your selflessness is cherished,
Please accept our thanks.

Despite winning the war,
Millions of them died,
Their kin asked what for,
Justice never applied.

They were all but youths,
Just like you and me,
Fighting the untruths,
So that we could be free.

On this special day,
We owe them a debt,
Let their sacrifice hold sway,

‘' Lest We Forget ‘'
