An Unopened Book

The Man I Am

I was once asked who I wanted to be,
In my reply, I simply said "Me".
I want to be a kind, gentle man.
One who listens; who understands.
A quiet man, who people want to hear.
One who holds the people with troubled hearts.
The man who will wipe away your tears.
A trustworthy man, that never needs to lie.
Someone strong; a rock in hardened times.
One who never accepts defeat; as long as I try.
Who whistle the tune of my favorite song.
Is quiet when he's right; admits when I'm wrong.
Not a mean spirited man who is quick to judge,
Nor carries the burden of holding a grudge.
The man who gets things done, sees it through.
When faced with a problem, knows what to do.
A family man; full of support, and energy.
That's the kind a man I want to be.
The man who shows love to all.
Who is always there to catch you,
If ever you fall.
So to your question who I want to be.
I am that man, I want to be me.
