The King Of Love

You overthrew me, the king,
Broke my throne, left me there.
My sweet voice no longer sings.
There, exposed, laying on the court.
Exposed so the whole world can see,
how even great kings can fall short.
I see no jesters laughing around.
No counsel giving advice or remark.
There is only silence here; no sound.
Watch, see my hanging banners fall.
Look around there is nothing left.
No celebration dance, just an empty hall.
No knights to stand to protect me.
See now how my stone walls crumble.
No gold or silver to glitter and gleam.
You overthrew me, claimed my own.
For you, it seemed all so simple.
You came with ease, took my throne.
Broken man, who once had it all.
Nothing left of what I used to rule.
No crowds cheering my name.
You came and took my golden stool.
No heralds announced your presence,
An unexpected visitor in my sight.
To take away my very being, my essence.
No golden triumphant trumpets to sing.
A once great man, who was unstoppable.
Love came and overthrew the king.
