GROWN-UP LITTLE TINA

She told me that she's always felt
A lot older than she really is,
She soon outgrew little girl dresses,
Couldn't stand for her hair to frizz;

Tina always wanted big hoops in her ears
Even when she was a little girl,
Never liked to wear "childish" braids,
And she wanted her hair to curl;

I began to feel fear deep in my heart
As I watched her grow up too fast,
Didn't want to lose my sweet little girl,
I so wanted her childhood to last;

But grow up she did, had to let her go,
I could no longer hold her down,
Especially when she came to let me know
She was ready for a wedding gown;

I cried when she left home at seventeen,
But her young hubby was filled with pride;
He tried to assure me not to worry at all,
Said he'd take care of his beautiful bride.

I couldn't stand to see the kids walk out,
It just about broke my heart;
But he begged me not to worry about her
Because he'd always do his part;

Tina also made me a promise that night,
She said she would do her best;
To prove she knew how to manage her life,
She never has flown back to the nest.
