Poetic-Verses

'' How Can You Celebrate A War ''

As the centenary approaches,
On common decency it encroaches,
As millions of children lie dead,
Bodies being displayed in open coaches,
Politicians are all off their head.

Buried where they fell,
With no story to tell,
For what end we have to ask,
The instigators I hope are rotting in Hell,
For hiding behind what was a mask.

Fifteen million died,
Because royalty cried,
When Ferdinand lay dead on the ground,
The upper classes then blatantly lied,
Just to shout, ‘' Up and over that mound ‘'

This was total slaughter,
Waist deep in water,
Frightened and stuck in the mud,
As all around them the flames got hotter,
They were boiling in their own blood.

With chemicals and germs,
There were no terms,
Barbarism was right to the fore,
Body temperatures measured in therms,
Burning them right to the core.

Led by faceless wonders,
Experts in blunders,
Conflict to them was a game,
All they could think of were their daily plunders,
Still none of these bastards felt shame.

Suffering from stress,
They were liked even less,
The decision by those they empowered?
Their actions they would have to redress,
Shot like a dog as a coward.

All the instigators,
In their suits and gaiters,
Their guilt they will never surmount,
To our innocent children they were the traitors,
But none were ever held to account

Now the celebration,
On behalf of our nation,
Is something we should all abhor?
Millions of our ancestors suffered damnation,

‘' How Can You Celebrate A War ‘'
