 The Mistress of Word Play

The Last Journey

woman walking photo womanwalking.jpg
There was nothing left.
She had felt the theft.
Her life was slipping away
as she walked fields of hay.

The sky once blue and bright
became her darkest deepest night.
Try as she might rest would not come.
What was it again she was running from?

Her days became weeks, sand dropping
yet onward she went, never stopping.
Trying to escape the twisted nightmares.
She disappears. No one cares.

Distorted images, world inverted upside down.
No water in sight, but she feels herself drown
as she falls to the ground
where what is left of her is found.

They will wonder and stare
some may realize if they dare
how things finally evolved to this
and why she accepted death's kiss.
