An Unopened Book

Deployment Papers

Deployment papers shaking there in his hands,
Although she knows why, she doesn't understand.
He knows he has to leave, time has come again.
Pack up his things, how he hates to leave them.
She tries hard to make things easy, this time around.
Tries to keep her feelings in check, feet on the ground.
She gives him his socks, clothes carefully washed.
Both not knowing this time, what it is going to cost.
Every time he leaves, it could really be good bye.
Coming across this thought she can't help but cry.
I'll write you everyday, I promise I will be okay,
But, that is one promise that isn't his to make.
Please try to be safe, the heroes part isn't yours to play.
I'll do all that I can, what else more can he say.
Crying they fall into each others arms; heartbroken.
No longer trying to hide the pain, they left unspoken.
I want you home, darling please come back home.
I can't bear to live a life without you; here all alone.
One way or another, my love I will  be right with you.
I know it's hard, but you know I've got work to do.
Months later a letter sent, shaking in her hands.
Not knowing how, still she doesn't understand.
Crying out loud, you said I wouldn't be alone.
I asked you please, I wanted you home.
And now you're on your way home.
