Welcome to My life in the shadows

THE CLEANSING

The corn stalks
And the bean poles
Used up in their purpose
Were first to go
And glowed
Orange and yellow
In the hungry flames
As they cracked and flung skyward
Great fiery sparks,
Like red hot love.
Apple and peach limbs
Cut from the purning
Were heaved into the flaming beast,
Each going up
With a crackling roar,
Of course this stirred within us
A need for more and more.
Planks of fir
And broken chairs
Soon joined the red high choirs
As we sang songs
To the season coming
And summer, not far behind,
The cold at our backs warmed
Driving our needs
And in the aftermath
We stood empty,
Looking down
At the dead
And dying ashes smoldering,
Our eyes filled of smoke, red
And closing
Staring at uncolored earth
White and black,
We seemed renewed of life
And yet,
Lost within our lust,
As if we were young
And in love.
