Welcome to My life in the shadows
A CONVERSATION WITH RANDY
I have never seen a fire fly
or the northern lights,
but I know they are real,
my Mother told me so,
Did you know they used to play music
over at the park on summer nights,
on the Fourth of July
where folks could go cool themselves,
Mother told me so.
She used to go dancing there
with her feet up in the air
under the summer stars
and watch the fireworks after dark,
she told me so.
Father and I took a goose
from the pond at the park
one late fall night,
and on the way home
I swear I saw fire fly,
and the northern lights,
but father said it was just a bug
caught in the police car lights,
he told me so.
We were so hungry then
and so thankful
when the officer let us go.
Father told him so.
