ELEGY, EVER AFTER

NYC Twin Tower photo: Freedom Tower NYC FreedomTower-1.jpg

Shhhh...
Listen closely
Do you hear it?
Barely audible
If you're not paying attention.

It's in the wind
And grows stronger
With each second
That ticks by;
A low hum,
Then a steady rumble,
And finally a roar!

It's the voice of freedom,
The voice of unity,
The voice of America
Rising as one
In the wake of memory.
Crying out as one
in the face of hatred.
To protect our own,
our own protect
the world.

Thirteen years
Have come and gone
And every year on this day,
we remember.
Somberly the bell tolls,
But triumphantly
Our resolve
Is alive!

In each heart,
In each mind,
The same mantra
Is chanted...

Never forget,
Never forget,
Never forget.
