 Penniluck's legacy

Adam

To my lovely grandson Adam on his 25th birthday 13/9/14 Happy birthday my laddie love always Special Nannie xxx

I remember some time before you were born
Your Mum and your Dad being really torn
Asked what to call you if you were a lad
We went through the alphabet and we were glad

When I said, `Adam,` now that`s a great handle
Okay they both said it`s better than Randal
A new name in the family will pass every test
It`s short and it`s manly and simply the best

From her chair in the corner you great gran piped in
That`s not a new name, that`s already been
In my family for decades, I thought she was dumb
Said, There are no Adams, your losing it Mum

Oh yes there were and I tell you true
One of my Granda`s and an uncle or two
Adam the elder had thirteen sons whose job was to fish
And each night the elder would count them like this

Lined up before him with his finger he`d point
Just to make sure they were back in the joint
He`d smile and say gaily, hame safe fae the sea
He was so proud of them all don`t you see

One day he counted, and found one was gone
Adam his eldest he`d lost in a storm
From that day forward he`d no longer count
With a finger to see that he had the amount

Of children he should have he just glanced around
And always he saw that his kids were all found
So my dear Adam you`re named for a man
Who loved all his children and followed God`s plan

Your great grandma taught me before you came home
Don`t make assumptions the way I had done
I love you my laddie so quiet and good
Helping your dad in the way that you should

I am so proud that I gave you your name
I`ve watched you grow and to me it is plain
You have a good soul so filled up with light
You say very little, but with all your might

You try to be kind and care for me too
So Adam my Adam I`m wishing for you
All the best things in life you can know
And believe you are loved wherever you go.
