I wrote on this last night a special night. Sometimes we lose faith,
the younger generation. Last night special not just a football game, as
we arrived at the game, climbing walls for the kids. Students dressed
soldiers helping the kids climb. It was military night. The kids dressed
as soldiers. All the students on both teams wearing military uniforms. Faces
painted black as camouflage. Opening ceremonies four soldiers were standing at
attention saluting the flag in uniform. Invited guests, former students serving
their country. Each a veteran or serving were given team helmets and
the screen running past showing name by name all past graduates who served their
country with honor.
I'm tough but emotional a tear or two. Kids passing would look at my bracelet
and say thank you for serving. For a football game, all the kids stood quietly
for the playing of the national anthem. Then broke out yelling, "USA USA USA"
answered by the kids on the other side of the field. It was really emotional.
The boys were announced and they ran on the field wearing Army colored uniforms.
Redmond was in their regular school uniforms. We were the home team.
A little about numbers. When my Granddaughter played for state in Volleyball her
number was 24. Grandson started little league he wore 24 in her honor. The next
higher team he played on did not have 24 so he switched to 12. Ryan started hockey
took number 12 in his brothers honor. The idea 12+12 equals 24. There is no rivalry
amongst these kids. Brent wears a number 12 hockey Jersey to Ryan's games. Football
he needed to have a tight end numbers So he became 41. The Army uniforms did not have
a 41 so he was for one night 40.But number 41 made and appearance on the sidelines.
Ryan proud of his brother wore his usual school jersey to the game. This is my point
I found heart warming. The school is a very caring They all root for each other.Really
neat, a player on the other team dropped a pass. Obviously emotionally upset he hung
his head. Two kids on our team walked over and hugged him. Slapped him on the pads in
a manner of saying you well get the next one. Two more came up and high fived him as
they would each other in a practice. After the game the teams mixed as friends. It is
not like that with every team. But it was nice to see in a world filled with violence. /dandy
