The Night Passes

Softly the night passes through the pristine
waters of silence. Stillness looms the wishes
of desperate souls enmeshed in the glass

menagerie of dreams. The hands of time trickling too slow
to reach the light of dawn. Creatures whining defying
the cold, when wicks are let loosed

And snuffed out, while chandeliers
ridicule a lonely hearth that barely
glows. Words uttered

the night's caress seemingly summoning a lonesome rain.
