Smoke billows into the air.
Mr nobody has fled the scene.
Jumping with arson ants in his pants!
What’s his story!
You dills, are you ill!
Unleashing the fury of flames,
On tinderbox grass plains and tree lined hills
Across 4 states these pests endanger our mates!
Volunteer fire fighters.

Hot summer days through the heat haze,
Humidity low, dry winds blow.
Whipping up fires.
Slowly starting, licking and leaping oxygen seeking.
Breathing in native bush gases.

Exploding tree canopies marching and roaring faster than a freight train.
 Don’t stand there run!
As the flames fly up the gully.
No time to think just find some water I think?
 No don’t wet your pants.
The family home won’t stand a chance.
Around, & up the hills this murderer burns not knowing which way to turn.
Side swiping houses.

Until a fire storm erupts just get in the truck,
Go now emergency roars!
Battalions of volunteer fire fighter’s into the fray.
It’s hopeless if they stay; fall back now before lives are lost.
Just because some mongrel tossed a cigarette.
What a mighty cost,
People, homes and memories.
The cattle, also native flora and fauna.

Night falls,  Orange ash glow against silhouetted tree trunks and blackened bush.
Fire fighters take some rest,
All the community raise there glasses to ash blackened faces of the best.
